Once upon a time in Blackpool…
As a child of the 90s, you could say I found my calling when I unwrapped our Windows 95 one magical Christmas. Armed with a humble word processor, it didn’t take long for me to realise that words could make things happen.
Within months I’d set up my own animal welfare organisation from our front room, editor of my very own newspaper mill. I put in endless hours in front of the screen creating newsletters for my family and friends, reporting on the most pressing issues in animal rights. I called for subscriptions, hosted fundraising events and donated that money to local charities. My content was aligned with a purpose, to make a difference in the world.
That’s when I first realised that words had power.
The right words in the right order could express important ideas, connect with people and drive positive change.
A writer was born
I’ve been writing ever since. You see, I’m a devout logophile, so I have studied language from every angle: the literary, the persuasive and the linguistic.
I graduated with a BA (Hons) in English Literature from Cardiff University, completed a year-long internship at The Wordsworth Trust and graduated with an MA in Late Medieval Literature and Culture from Manchester University with a Distinction. I’ve since earned Diplomas in Copywriting and Proofreading.
Over the last decade, I’ve been charting a career in content marketing, working in-house in arts marketing, as a freelance copy editor and copywriter, and most recently as a senior writer, editor and Accounts Director at Copify content agency.
Words are my bread and butter.
As digital content has become more prevalent, the idea that words can inspire action is truer than ever.
Over the past 9+ years, I have helped SMEs increase their online visibility and refine their brand voices to connect with audiences through my content. In my current role, I have implemented a blogging strategy that increased our organic traffic by 500+%.
The best words communicate ideas, build brands and seek out audiences. There is no longer room online for businesses that aren’t committed to inbound marketing.
But it’s not just about content
As a short story writer, novelist and reader of modern realism, I believe just as firmly that words have the power to make and shape worlds: worlds we can disappear into; worlds that warn; worlds that show us how it really is.
There is no greater persuasive power than the written word, because words don’t assume power by force, they sink deep, they get into your soul and carve out a landscape that can be both public and private.
A skilled writer knows how to build that argument but also respects the sanctity of the relationship between the written word and its reader.
